  1. The scene starts with the camera panning down on to the school gates with the schools name in focus. The audience can hear non-diagetic sound which is coming from the teenagers walking through the school gates, which we know from prior series that this is the main setting of The Inbetweeners. We also know from this that the series is aimed at teenagers of a similar age group. The camera then switches to a medium close up of a boy sat alone on a bench, who appears to be startled by what he sees.

Non-diagetic music starts in sync with the camera panning down to the bright yellow classic 'Inbetweeners car,' the angle of the camera is of a worms view, as though the car is going to knock down the camera, almost as though those in the car are showing authority.

The trailer is edited in a slow pace, which is a parody on an American soap such as 91210, where the gorgeous characters step out onto a sunny loaction, from a white Audi. But here we see four, typical English school boys, who aren't particualy good looking exiting of their nearly broken down, Fiat.

    The non-diagetic Jay-Z '99 problems' lyrics play

A high angle shot shows the children walking through in to the school, before swiftly panning down to one of the main characters (Will.) Will is walking confidently but the audience can tell by his style, for example his glasses that his stereotyped as a 'geek.'

The shots are edited in a fast pace which shows the amount of different exciting story lines that will be coming up, which excites the teens watching the

The trailer is rude and full of sexual innuendos, this attracts teenagers as it is dipicted as funny and reflects a typical teenagers sense of humour

  2. The Only Way Is Essex:

    - Similar to The Hills, it is a scripted reality TV drama. However, as it is in Essex it is not as 'classy'

-The establishing shots with the introduction of the characters show the genre, the girls flick their hair and show off their glitzy jewellery whilst the boys are not far off the same, with their pristine, white teeth and smart suits.

    - Shot types are zoomed and medium close ups to show the extravagance and glamour the 'characters' have. The camera begins with a close up of Amy's face, caked in makeup, it then pans down to her in her bra. We learn from this and the music and general mise en scene that the target audience is 18-30, who possibly haven't been to college and are uneducated, they are aspirational and enjoy reality TV shows such as Big Brother, Katie and Peter and I’m a Celebrity.

    - The backing track doesn’t kick in for 30 seconds, this gives the audience time to adjust and be introduced to the characters. Then the line ‘’the only way is up’’ kicks in and a full shot with the title and all the characters is shown. This creates the mise en scene because, the characters are all pulling their own pose, they don’t look as a group for instance the characters in ‘Friends.’

  3. Waterloo road:

    - Drama set in a real school North London, different drama every week with some follow up stories but always another occurring theme

    - This particular clip is what we decided to base our soap on. A teacher and student love affair. The song ‘Rude boy’ by Rhianna is diagetic but also fits with the mise en scene. I liked this and that is why I chose to use such well fitting lyrics with my soap. The songs dips and comes in and out to fit in with the dialogue. This is something we wanted to consider.

    - A tripod has not been used in the classroom to create a shaky effect therefore portraying that someone is watching them. The shot types are close to show the intimacy.

    - 3 minutes in to the soap we are shown the characters behind a wall, this gives another sense that they are being watched and they are hiding. The blurriness represents the ambiguity and secretiveness.

    - We liked the shot where Chris the teacher comes in to the computer room with Jess his student, it is a dark shot and it is very suggestive towards the relationship they have. The computers almost act as a barrier between the ‘couple’ so we recreated this shot with Jess and Mr.Mead (our characters)
